Why you’ll love this

There are so many reasons to love this Ninja Creami peanut butter ice cream recipe- it has rich peanut butter flavor, the perfect amount of creaminess, and it’s made lighter with milk instead of heavy cream.

The best part is you only need four ingredients and there’s 10 grams of protein per serving (plus more if you want to add a scoop of protein powder!).

If you’re looking for a healthier dessert to satisfy your sweet tooth, you’ve gotta try this easy homemade ice cream.

The Ninja Creami ice cream maker is one of my favorite kitchen appliances every because making healthy ice cream at home has never been easier!

Unlike many traditional ice cream makers, you can easily turn just about anything into ice cream, including a protein shake (don’t miss my Ninja Creami Protein ice cream recipe!)!

You an even swap in any nut butter that you have like almond butter, cashew butter or sunflower butter.

The final product is a peanut butter fanatics dream and I just know you’re going to love this one as much as I do! Let’s get into what you need to make it.

Ingredients

  1. Milk: Milk instead of heavy cream makes up the creamy ice cream base of this ice cream! I like to use Fairlife 2% milk because it’s ultra-filtered and almost as creamy as whole milk (it’s also higher protein). You can use any milk, but I recommend using at least 2% or the ice cream won’t be as creamy.
  2. Peanut butter: You’ll need peanut butter of course! Any peanut butter will work, whether you like natural peanut butter or classic Jif. You can also sub peanut butter powder if you prefer something lower fat and lower calorie, it will just be a little bit less creamy.
  3. Instant vanilla pudding mix: A couple of tablespoons of instant pudding mix helps this ice cream to be super creamy. You can use regular vanilla pudding mix or sugar-free. If you prefer an instant pudding mix with less additives, this Simple Mixes pudding mix is a good option, or check your local grocery store for options.
  4. Vanilla extract: Vanilla extract just adds a little bit more flavor. This one is my favorite.
  5. Maple syrup or honey: This is optional because most pudding mixes (especially if you’re using a sugar-free version) are pretty sweet on their own, and you won’t need to add extra sweetener. I recommend doing a taste test before freezing to see if you’d like it sweeter.

Tips for success

  • If your ice cream is still crumbly or not as soft as you want, keep spinning! Through trial and error I’ve found that lower fat, lower sugar recipes typically need three spins, and sometimes an extra one!
  • If you want a softer serve ice cream, add a tablespoon of milk before mixing. Just be careful because even a small amount of liquid can make it significantly softer! I recommend re-spinning first.
  • Use at least 2% milk for the best creaminess. Personally I love to use Fairlife because their 2% milk is ultra-filtered, which means it’s extra creamy and also higher in protein! It makes for the perfect base.

Variations

  • Use chocolate milk, add 1-2 tbsp of cocoa powder or add 1-2 scoops of chocolate protein power for Ninja Creami chocolate peanut butter ice cream.
  • Add a scoop of either vanilla protein powder or chocolate protein powder for a higher protein treat.
  • Swirl in your favorite fruit jam before serving for PB&J ice cream!
  • Use dairy-free milk instead of regular milk for a dairy free version. Oat milk is typically creamiest but unsweetened almond milk, coconut milk, soy milk or cashew milk would all work!
  • Instead of creamy peanut butter, try chunky for a bit more texture!
  • For a cheesecake-like flavor, try adding a scoop of cream cheese to the mix.
