Ingredient Notes

Ingredients for ninja creami blueberry ice cream on a countertop with labels.
  • Blueberries: Blueberries give the ice cream great blueberry flavor, fiber and antioxidants. Fresh or frozen blueberries both work. Fresh berries give a bright, classic flavor, while frozen blueberries add deeper color and sweetness. If using frozen berries, blend them fully into the base before freezing so the Creami can process everything smoothly.
  • Milk: I recommend at least 2% milk to keep the texture creamy and delicious. If you use an ultra-filtered milk (like Fairlife), you’ll also get added protein packed in too. Whole milk or dairy-free milk like oat milk will work great too.
  • Pudding mix: Vanilla instant pudding mix adds a little sweetness and makes this ice cream have the perfect creamy texture. You can use sugar free pudding mix for an even lower sugar ice cream.
  • Lemon juice: A tiny splash of fresh lemon juice enhances the flavor and natural sweetness of fresh blueberries, adding just the right amount of tart.
  • Optional sweeteners: Always taste the ice cream base before you freeze it. If needed, you can add a few teaspoons of additional sweetener like maple syrup, honey, agave syrup or use a sugar substitute depending on your taste preference.

Variations To Try

  • Mix in wild blueberries. After the final re-spin step, mix in wild blueberries for fun blueberry bursts in your ice cream.
  • Make blueberry cheesecake ice cream. Add 1 tablespoon cream cheese and use 1 tablespoon for mix-ins.
  • Try blueberry vanilla ice cream. Add 1 teaspoon vanilla extract or vanilla bean paste to the base before freezing for a blueberry vanilla ice cream.
  • Make blueberry pie ice cream. Add a few crumbled Nilla Wafer cookies and whipped cream.
  • Make peanut butter and jelly ice cream. Drizzle with melted peanut butter for a sundae with the flavors of peanut butter and jelly.
  • Create a creamier version. Add a few tablespoons of heavy cream.
  • Add more protein. Mix in a scoop of vanilla protein powder.

Recipe FAQ

What should I do if my ice cream seems crumbly?

I like to spin light ice creams 3 times so that they’re nice and creamy. I find that they can still be a little crumbly after just 2 spins. If needed, you can add about a tablespoon of milk or liquid to help the ice cream get creamy.

Can you use frozen blueberries?

Yes, absolutely! Fresh or frozen berries will both work great here since they’re blended in the blender beforehand. You’ll get a deeper blueberry color if you use frozen.

  • 2 tbsp vanilla instant pudding mix, regular or sugar-free
  • 1 tsp lemon juice

Instructions

  • Add all ingredients to a high speed blender and blend on high until completely smooth and creamy.
  • Pour into the Ninja Creami pint container. Cover with lid and freeze for 24 hours.
  • Run lite ice cream mode x1. Note that ice cream will still be crumbly on first spin.
  • Run respin mode x2. Note: ice cream should be smooth and creamy after 3 spins. If needed, add a tiny splash of milk to help with creaminess.

Notes

  • Fresh or frozen blueberries work.
  • Blend the base until completely smooth. This ensures the creamiest texture.
  • Re-spin is needed. If the ice cream looks crumbly after the first spin, add 1-2 tablespoons of milk and re-spin.
  • Mix-ins: If adding mix-ins, add mix-ins to the center of the ice cream before running mix-in mode. Mix-in ideas: chocolate chips, white chocolate chips, graham crackers, fresh blueberries.
