Everything You Love About Birthday Cake Ice Cream

This cake batter ice cream made in a Ninja Creami has all of the fun, nostalgic flavor of birthday cake ice cream with a creamy texture that feels just like real ice cream shop ice cream.

Here’s why you’ll love it:

  • Easier than traditional homemade ice cream. No custards, churning, or complicated steps required. Just freeze the base and let the Ninja Creami do the work.

  • Vanilla protein powder: Adds protein and sweetness while helping create a creamy texture. Use a protein powder you already love since the flavor impacts the overall tastes of the ice cream. I love Clean Simple Eats Vanilla Protein Powder.
  • Vanilla pudding mix: Gives the ice cream a smoother, creamier texture and adds more classic cake batter flavor.
  • Milk: 2% milk keeps the base creamy without making it too heavy, but whole milk will create an even richer texture.
  • Butter extract: This is one of the key ingredients that gives the ice cream that nostalgic birthday cake flavor.
  • Almond extract: Adds a classic funfetti-style bakery flavor sound in birthday cake desserts. A little goes a long way.
  • Rainbow sprinkles: Add color, texture, and the fun birthday cake look.

Optional Mix-Ins

You can easily customize depending on the flavor you’re craving or what mix-ins you have on hand.

  • Vanilla frosting: Makes the ice cream taste even more like real cake batter ice cream from an ice cream shop.
  • Golden oreos: Add extra sweetness and texture while giving the ice cream more of a birthday cake cookie flavor.
  • White chocolate chips: They pair especially well with the sweet birthday cake flavor.

How to Make Ninja Creami Cake Batter Ice Cream

One of the best things about the Ninja Creami is how simple it makes homemade cream. Just mix, freeze, spin, and enjoy.

A hand pours the protein powder into the creami pint container with the pudding mix, milk, almond and butter extract before whisking.
  1. Add the protein powder, pudding mix, milk, almond extract, and butter extract to the Ninja Creami pint container.

Jamie’s Tips

Expert Recipe Tips

  • Freeze the pint completely flat. A level surface helps the ice cream freeze evenly for the smoothest texture.
  • Re-spin if the ice cream looks crumbly. This is completely normal, especially with high-protein ones. A quick re-spin creates a much creamier texture.
  • Don’t skip the butter and almond extracts. These two ingredients are what give the ice cream that classic birthday cake flavor.
  • Add mix-ins after spinning. This keeps the texture creamy.
  • Let the pint sit for a few minutes before spinning if frozen very solid. This will help the Ninja Creami process the ice cream more evenly.

FAQs

Why is my Ninja Creami ice cream crumbly?

This is completely normal. Simply run the re-spin cycle once to create a smoother, creamier texture. If it still looks dry, add a small splash of milk before re-spinning again.

What does the butter extract do?

When combined with the almond extract and sprinkles, it creates that classic cake batter flavor.

Can I use a different type of milk?

Yes. Whole milk will create a richer texture, while lower-fat milk options still work well. The final creaminess may vary depending on the milk you use.

Can I refreeze Ninja Creami ice cream?

Yes. Store leftovers in the original pint container with the lid sealed tightly. After refreezing, simply use the re-spin setting again before serving.

How to Store

Store the ice cream in the original Ninja Creami pint container with the lid tightly sealed. Keep the pint frozen for up to 1-2 weeks for the best texture and flavor.

After refreezing, the ice cream will become firm again. Simply run the Ninja Creami on the re-spin setting before serving to bring back the creamy texture.

Texture tip: If the ice cream looks dry or crumbly after re-spinning, add a small splash of milk before running the re-spin cycle again.

Make-ahead tip: This is a great frozen dessert to keep in the freezer during warmer months since you can easily customize the mix-ins depending on what you’re craving.
