Rich, creamy Protein Chocolate Pudding has all the chocolate flavor and smooth, spoonable texture of classic chocolate pudding. Greek yogurt and chocolate protein powder add a little extra protein, making it one of my favorite snacks or easy desserts when I’m craving something chocolate.

Chocolate pudding has always been one of those desserts that feels simple in the best way. Whether it’s after dinner or an afternoon snack, it’s hard to beat a bowl of rich chocolate pudding.
After making this recipe more times than I can count, I’ve realized I don’t want protein pudding to feel like a completely different dessert. I want it to have the same chocolate flavor and scoopable texture as classic chocolate pudding, with the protein simply being a bonus. That’s exactly why I keep coming back to this version.
Protein Chocolate Pudding That Actually Tastes Like Pudding
Chocolate pudding is one of those desserts that doesn’t need much to be good. It should be rich, spoonable, and full of chocolate flavor, and that’s exactly what I wanted this protein version to be.
Instead of trying to make the highest-protein pudding possible, I focused on making one I’d actually look forward to eating. Greek yogurt and chocolate protein powder add a little extra protein, but the pudding still tastes like chocolate pudding.
Here’s why I love this recipe:
- It tastes like real chocolate pudding. Instant pudding mix creates the thick texture you’d expect, while the chocolate protein powder blends right in without taking over the flavor.
- Ready in about 10 minutes. Just whisk everything together, let it set, and it’s ready to enjoy. It’s one of the easiest high-protein desserts I make.
- Over 20 grams of protein per serving. Greek yogurt and protein powder make this a more filling snack or dessert while keeping the smooth, creamy texture of classic chocolate pudding.
- Perfect to keep in the fridge. I love keeping a couple servings in the refrigerator because they’re easy to grab after dinner or anytime.
- Easy to make your own. Top it with whipped cream, chocolate shavings, fresh berries, or chopped peanuts depending on what you’re in the mood for.
Ingredient Notes
You’ll just need 4 ingredients for this recipe!

For full recipe instructions and complete list of ingredients, scroll down to the recipe card at the bottom of this page.
- Greek Yogurt: Greek yogurt adds both protein and creaminess, helping create a pudding that’s thick and smooth without tasting overly tangy. I recommend plain Greek yogurt so the chocolate flavor stays front and center.
- Chocolate Protein Powder: The protein powder boosts the protein while adding even more chocolate flavor. Different brands absorb liquid differently, so if your pudding seems a little thinner than you’d like, let it chill for a few minutes before deciding if it needs anything else. See the recipe notes below if your protein powder contains digestive enzymes (like Clean Simple Eats).
- Instant Chocolate Pudding Mix: The instant pudding mix is what gives this recipe its classic smooth, creamy texture. You can use either regular or sugar-free pudding mix depending on your preference.
- Milk: Start with the amount listed in the recipe. If you prefer a slightly thinner pudding, simply whisk in another splash of milk until it’s the consistency you like.
How to Make High Protein Chocolate Pudding

- In a medium bowl, add the Greek yogurt, milk, chocolate pudding mix, and chocolate protein powder.

- Whisk together the pudding ingredients until smooth and creamy. Let it fully set for about 5 minutes and enjoy with whipped cream, cool whip, or your favorite fruit.

Serving Ideas
- Drizzle with peanut butter or your favorite nut butter.
- Top or layer with whipped cream, whipped topping or a dollop of Greek yogurt.
- Sprinkle with chopped peanut butter cups (my favorite), sprinkles, toffee bits, granola, or even mini M&Ms.
- Make a chocolate shell by melting a few tablespoons of chocolate chips in the microwave with a 1/2 teaspoon of coconut oil. Drizzle it over the top of your cup of pudding for a fun chocolate “shell” to scoop into.

My Best Tips for Protein Chocolate Pudding
- If your pudding doesn’t set right away, the protein powder is usually the reason. Some protein powders contain added digestive enzymes that prevent it from thickening properly. If your pudding is still thin after mixing, whisk in an additional ½ to 1 tablespoon of instant pudding mix and refrigerate for 1 to 2 hours until it reaches the consistency you’re looking for. I’ve found this especially common with protein powders like Clean Simple Eats. If you prefer one that doesn’t include digestive enzymes, Just Ingredients Chocolate Protein Power is a good one.
- Whisk until completely smooth. Take an extra minute to whisk everything together well so that the Greek yogurt and protein powder are fully incorporated. This gives the pudding its classic pudding texture.
- Serve it cold. The pudding becomes even creamier after a little time in the refrigerator, making it a great make-ahead snack or dessert.
Storage and Make Ahead
This Chocolate Protein Pudding stores well, making it easy to prepare ahead for snacks or dessert.
Refrigerate: Store the pudding in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 4 days. Give it a quick stir before serving if any liquid separates.
Make ahead: I like making it the night before so it’s ready to grab the next day. The pudding stays thick and spoonable, and the chocolate flavor is just as rich the next day.
Freezing: I don’t recommend freezing this recipe. The texture of the Greek yogurt changes as it thaws, making the pudding grainy instead of smooth.
