Why you’ll love this ice cream

If you’ve ever made banana “nice cream”, you already know how amazing the texture of frozen blended bananas is! It creates creamy ice cream with the most delicious natural banana flavor.

With a few simple ingredient additions, you can make an even more delicious and creamy homemade banana ice cream in your Ninja Creami.

You’ll especially love this one because a half pint has 5 g protein, 3 g fiber and an entire banana!

Plus, bananas are a good source of potassium, vitamin B6, and even a source of vitamin C.

If you’re a banana ice cream fan, you’re going to love this homemade ice cream that’s made a little bit lighter with milk instead of cream, and just a small amount of added sugar.

My favorite part about this recipe (and Ninja Creami recipes in general) is that you can use the same ice cream base and change up your toppings or mix-ins.

If you love peanut butter banana, just add peanut butter. Love chocolate chips? No problem! You could even turn this into a chocolate banana ice cream by adding some cocoa powder.

Let’s get into what you need!

Ingredients

  1. Bananas: The main ingredient of this banana ice cream is bananas, of course! This isn’t the same as “nice cream” where the only ingredient is bananas, but the bananas do provide most of the sweetness, flavor and texture. Choose ripe bananas for maximum sweetness.
  2. Milk: Any milk will work but my preferred milk for Ninja Creami recipes is Fairlife 2%. It has the perfect amount of creaminess and has a little bit more protein than other milk.
    • Add a splash of heavy cream or whole milk if you want to add a bit more fat for creaminess.
    • You can use plant-based milks like almond milk, oat milk or coconut milk but the final prouct will be slightly different with a less creamy texture.
  3. Maple syrup: I like to add just a little bit of maple syrup for sweetness and a deeper flavor. You can also use honey, sugar-free sweetener, or omit the added sugar altogether and use the sweetness of the bananas.
  4. Vanilla extract: Vanilla extract is added for flavoring. This one is my favorite. You can also use vanilla bean paste.

You’ll also of course need your Ninja Creami ice cream maker! I love it so much more than traditional ice cream makers because it’s truly foolproof and you can make so many delicious flavors!

Step-by-step instructions

  1. Combine bananas, milk, maple syrup and vanilla in the Ninja Creami pint container.
  2. Blend using an immersion blender. If you don’t have an immersion blender you can also use a whisk or handheld masher to mash the banana as thoroughly as possible, and then mix. Make sure to mix well to minimize ingredients settling at the bottom of the pint.

  1. Remove from the freezer and place the container in the Ninja Creami Machine. Press the Lite Ice Cream function button. After the first spin, it will still look crumbly (that’s normal!).
  2. Press re-spin one time. At this point, the ice cream should be nice and creamy. If it looks too crumbly, press re-spin an additional time.

Recipe FAQ

My ice cream is still crumbly, what should I do?

If you ever find your Ninja Creami ice cream to be crumbly, it needs more spins or a splash more liquid. Try re-spinning one more time, and if that doesn’t work, try adding a teaspoon-ish of liquid before re-spinning again.

Can I use a sugar-free sweetener instead of maple syrup?

Of course! If you want a no added sugar version, you can simply omit the maple syrup altogether or use a sugar-free sweetener. I like allulose syrup as a liquid sweetener replacement.

Mix-in ideas

Before adding these mix-ins, simply create a small “hole” in the center of the ice cream and then use the mix-in function.

  • Chocolate chips
  • Dark chocolate chips, white chocolate chips, or even cinnamon chips
  • Graham crackers
  • Peanut butter, almond butter, or cashew butter
  • Walnuts, almonds, cashews or peanuts
  • Fresh fruit like raspberries or strawberries

    1. Yum! So good with chocolate chips! Thank you for leaving a review Corinne ๐Ÿ™‚

  1. Came out exactly as I had hoped! Consistency was on point, and I mixed in peanut butter as a topping. SO yum!

  2. 5 stars
This recipe really works and tastes delicious. We mixed in peanut butter at the ‘mix in’ stage which kind of worked, but not quite worked out how to swirl the peanut butter through the ice cream yet. I am in the UK and used Jersey full fat milk which is around 4.9% fat

    1. So glad you enjoyed it! I think the best ways to “swirl” it in is probably by hand with a spoon or small spatula ๐Ÿ™‚

  3. May I ask why you spin this on lite ice cream? Haven’t used my creami a whole bunch and am still confused as to when use what setting. Thanks!

    1. I use the lite ice cream button since it’s a lower fat recipe than using heavy cream, so it needs a bit more mixing. From what I understand it spins the fastest on this setting so that you get the creamiest texture ๐Ÿ™‚

    1. I haven’t but I’m sure it would work great- I’ve found that oat milk tends to be creamiest.
