Why You’ll Love Strawberry Cheesecake Overnight Oats
Making breakfast ahead of time is one of the easiest ways to stay consistent with healthy habits. Overnight oats are one of my go-to options (make sure to try my Blueberry Cheesecake Overnight Oats next!).
This wholesome breakfast meets delicious dessert. Here’s why this strawberry cheesecake overnight oats recipe stands out:
- High protein and fiber. These oats pack 24 grams protein and 10 grams of fiber, so they’re a great way to fuel your morning.
- Quick and easy to prep. Just a few minutes is all it takes. Pop them in the fridge overnight and breakfast is ready when you are.
- Meal prep friendly. Make a few jars at the start of the week for a grab-and-go breakfast you’ll actually look forward to.
- Tastes like dessert. Creamy cheese, Greek yogurt, and fresh strawberries come together to create that classic strawberry cheesecake flavor.
- Balanced, not overly heavy. Made with simple ingredients and a lighter approach, these oats give you that rich cheesecake flavor without feeling too heavy for an everyday breakfast.
What Makes Them Taste Like Cheesecake
The key to getting that true cheesecake flavor comes from a combination of ingredients that mimic both the richness and the tang of cheesecake.
- Cream cheese adds that signature rich, slightly tangy flavor that makes these oats taste like dessert instead of just sweet oatmeal.
- Greek yogurt enhances the creaminess while adding a subtle tang, similar to what you’d find in traditional cheesecake filling.
- Vanilla extract and honey or maple syrup round everything out with warmth and sweetness, giving it that classic dessert flavor.
- Fresh strawberries add natural sweetness.
- Optional graham cracker topping adds that familiar cheesecake crust element, making every bite feel like strawberry cheesecake.
Ingredient Notes

For full recipe instructions and complete list of ingredients, scroll down to the recipe card at the bottom of this page.
- Rolled oats & chia seeds: Two great sources of fiber give this recipe a nutritious base. Chia seeds help thicken the oats and add healthy fats and fiber, too.
- Milk & Greek yogurt: For protein and the perfect creamy texture I like to use 2% milk and plain, full fat Greek yogurt. Yogurt also adds the perfect amount of tang to give it that “cheesecake” flavor.
- Cream cheese: You can’t have cheesecake without cream cheese!
- Honey: Just a touch of honey adds sweetness. Maple syrup works too.
- Vanilla extract: Just a little vanilla adds a boost of flavor.
- Lemon juice: Lemon adds bright flavor, just like in strawberry cheesecake.
- Fresh strawberries: Look for dark red, ripe berries for maximum sweetness.
- Optional Toppings: For the ultimate cheesecake experience, top with crushed graham crackers, whipped cream and even more strawberries!
Variations
- Cottage cheese: For even more cheesecake flavor, try using blended cottage cheese in place of Greek yogurt.
- Vegan: Use your favorite dairy free yogurt, vegan cream cheese (I like violife) and non-dairy milk of choice (oat milk and coconut milk are the creamiest but unsweetened almond milk or soy milk are great choices too).
- Higher protein. If you want something even higher protein, add a scoop of your favorite vanilla protein powder.
- Have fun with toppings: Drizzled almond butter, peanut butter, white chocolate, mini chocolate chips or your favorite fresh fruit are great options.
- Gluten Free. Use certified gluten-free oats and gluten free graham crackers to garnish.
How To Make Strawberry Cheesecake Overnight Oats

- Add ingredients to jar. In a single serve, sealable container (like a small mason jar) combine rolled oats, milk, Greek yogurt, cream cheese, chia seeds, vanilla, honey and lemon juice.

- Stir. Stir well until combined.

- Add strawberries. Stir in sliced strawberries.

- Set and serve. Allow to set for at least 4 hours. Give them a good stir and then top with whipped cream, graham cracker crumbs and more sliced strawberries if desired. Note: Save toppings for right before serving!

Tips For The Best Texture
- Soften the cream cheese first. Let the cream cheese come to room temperature before mixing. This helps it blend smoothly into the oats and prevents small clumps.
- Stir well before refrigerating. Make sure everything is fully combined.
- Let it sit long enough. Overnight oats need at least 4 hours to thicken, but overnight is best for that creamy cheesecake texture.
- Adjust the consistency before serving. If your oats are too thick in the morning, stir in a splash of milk until you reach your desired consistency.
- Add toppings just before serving. For the best texture, wait to add graham cracker crumbs or crunchy toppings until right before eating so they stay crisp.
FAQs
You can, but the texture will be “mushier” and they’ll take a little less time to set. Personally I prefer the texture of rolled oats much more.
Yes! Oats are a great source of soluble fiber which promotes fullness, helps keep your digestion happy and can even keep your blood sugars stable. They’re especially great when made with other nutrient-packed ingredients like chia seeds, berries and Greek Yogurt.
Yes! You can skip the cream cheese but the texture will be slightly less rich and “cheesecake-like” but still creamy.
Save any crunchy toppings for right before serving! Granola, nuts, cereal, or graham cracker crumbles like in this recipe will get soggy if added ahead of time.
Overnight oats need a minimum of 3-4 hours to set and soak up all of the liquid so that you’re not eating crunchy oatmeal! They’re great to make in the evening and then they’re sure to be ready for breakfast.
They will keep well in the refrigerator for 3 to 4 days in an airtight container. Fresh strawberries may soften and release some juice over time, but the oats will still be safe and flavorful.
How To Store
Store overnight oats in an airtight container in the fridge for up to 4 days. I like to use these 16 ounce jars with lid so that there’s plenty of room for toppings!
