Ingredient Notes

Just a few ingredients create a honey sriracha sauce that tastes amazing and is incredibly easy to make!

All of the ingredients for honey sriracha shrimp in bowls on a countertop.
  • Shrimp: Use fresh raw shrimp that are peeled and deveined for the easiest prep. Make sure to pat the shrimp dry with a paper towel to remove excess water.
  • Avocado oil: You can substitute with another neutral oil like canola oil.
  • Honey: Adds natural sweetness and creates the slightly sticky sauce which coats the shrimp.
  • Sriracha: Brings the signature sweet heat to this recipe. It’s balanced, slightly tangy, and has a subtle sweetness that pairs well with the honey and lime. You can adjust the amount to make the dish milder or spicier.
  • Soy sauce: Adds savory flavor to balance the sweetness of the honey. You can sub with coconut aminos, if needed.
  • Fresh lime juice: Use freshly squeezed lime juice to add acidity and keep the flavors fresh.
  • Fresh garlic: Use freshly minced garlic cloves for the best flavor.

Jamie’s tips

Expert Recipe Tips

  • Pat the shrimp dry before cooking. This helps remove excess moisture and allows the sauce to coat them better.
  • Don’t overcrowd the pan. Always cook shrimp in a single layer so they cook evenly. If you have too many shrimp in the pan you will steam them instead of sear them.
  • Cook the shrimp just until opaque. Shrimp cook quickly, usually only 2 to 3 minutes per side. Avoid overcooking or they will be rubbery.
  • Let the sauce thicken. Allow the sauce to simmer in the pan so it becomes glossy and sticks to the shrimp.

Serving Suggestions

One of the best things about this recipe is how versatile it is. You can serve it a variety of ways depending on what you’re feeling.

  • Serve as an appetizer. Arrange the cooked shrimp on wooden skewers and serve with extra sauce for dipping.
  • Serve it taco-style. Use the shrimp as a filling for tacos or lettuce wraps with slaw or avocado lime crema.
  • Turn it into a noodle bowl. Serve over rice noodles or ramen with some shredded carrots and green onions.
  • Make a rice bowl. Serve with brown rice, jasmine rice, or cauliflower rice and a side of your favorite vegetables like steamed broccoli, snap peas, sautéed peppers, corn, or avocado (this is my favorite way!).
  • Pair with a simple salad. Something crisp and refreshing, like this cucumber and mango salad is the perfect addition.
  • Add garnishes. For crunch, top with sesame seeds, chopped peanuts or cashews. Or add some fresh herbs like cilantro or sliced green onions. Add red pepper flakes for a kick of heat. Or a squeeze of lime juice for more citrusy flavor.

How to Store

This spicy honey shrimp recipe is best fresh, but leftovers are still flavorful and convenient for easy meals later in the week.

Store leftovers in an airtight container in the fridge for up to 2 days. Warm leftovers quickly over low heat or in short intervals in the microwave to avoid overcooking.

I do not recommend freezing the shrimp as they can become rubbery.
