This high protein buffalo chicken dip is so flavorful that you’d never know it was made a little bit lighter and higher protein with Greek yogurt. Enjoy with tortilla chips, veggies or your favorite dippers! It’s perfect for serving as a delicious appetizer during football season, holidays, or any time at all!

Why you’ll love this healthier buffalo chicken dip
First of all, this creamy buffalo chicken dip is amazing. It’s made a little bit lighter, but you’d truly never know! It’s honestly my favorite appetizer and the best buffalo chicken dip I make.
Traditional buffalo chicken dip gets a bad reputation as an “unhealthy” food, but honestly, there’s nothing wrong with buffalo chicken dip at all. Between chicken and cheese, it packs quite a bit of protein even in a regular recipe!
This recipe is extra special because it uses a little bit less cream cheese with a big Greek yogurt addition to add even more protein to this dip. There’s 27 g protein per serving!
That means not only is this buffalo chicken dip absolutely delicious, but it’s going to keep you full too! It’s perfect for serving to a crowd but I also love having it with my favorite chips and veggies for lunch.
And it’s simple! You only need six ingredients and all you have to do is combine them and bake them in the oven. Serve with your favorite crackers, chips or veggies! Doesn’t get much easier than that!
Whether you’re making this one for game day or your next party, you’re going to be absolutely obsessed with this healthy buffalo chicken dip recipe.
Ingredients
- Shredded or chopped chicken breast: You can either prepare your own chopped or shredded chicken, or grab a rotisserie chicken from the grocery store and shred the meat.
- Greek yogurt: Plain Greek yogurt is similar in both flavor and texture to sour cream, so it makes for a great addition in creamy recipes like this one. For fat content, I prefer full fat, but any percentage of fat will work including nonfat Greek yogurt.
- Buffalo sauce: You can use regular hot sauce if you don’t have buffalo sauce, but it makes a huge flavor difference in my opinion. My favorites are Frank’s RedHot Wings Buffalo sauce or Primal Kitchen Buffalo Sauce.
- Monterey jack & cheddar cheese: I love using two kinds of cheese for this one!
- Cream cheese: Yes, cream cheese! Cream cheese adds tons of creaminess and we’ll use a little bit less than traditional recipes.
Step-by-step instructions
- Preheat oven to 400 degrees.
- Add all ingredients except for 1/2 cup of cheddar cheese to a large baking dish and combine well.
- Sprinkle the remaining cheddar cheese on top (feel free to add extra cheese!).
- Bake for about 20 minutes until cheese is melted and dip is bubbling.
- Sprinkle with sliced green onions if desired.
Serving ideas
- Tortilla chips or corn chips
- Pretzels
- Pretzel chips
- Pita chips
- Crostini
- Bagel chips
- Sliced vegetables like carrot sticks, celery sticks, or bell peppers.
What to do with leftover buffalo chicken dip
- Serve with chips and veggies for a fun high protein snack.
- Spread on a pita bread or naan, sprinkle with more cheese and toast until cheese is melted for a buffalo chicken flatbread.
- Roll up in tortillas and air fry for a buffalo chicken roll up.
- Make a buffalo chicken grilled cheese by adding a slice of cheddar on top of a layer of buffalo chicken dip.
- Serve inside a baked potato and top with sour cream and green onions.
Variations
- Add other varieties of cheese like mozzarella cheese or blue cheese crumbles.
- Add a packet of ranch seasoning powder or ranch dressing for a ranch-style buffalo chicken dip.
- Use canned chicken if you’re low on time!
- Make in your slow cooker instead of the oven by cooking on low for 1-2 hours.
- Swap the cream cheese for 3/4 cup cottage cheese for a cottage cheese buffalo chicken dip with even more protein (it will be a little less creamy, but still delicious!).

Outstanding!!! With 2 teenage boys Iโm always looking for creative dinner ideas. I used 3 cups of chicken breast and served with mini sweet bell pepper halves. No one had a clue there was Greek yogurt in there. Winner!

I use this recipe for weekly lunches! I mix all the ingredients, portion it into smaller glass dishes and heat up the individual portions. I usually eat it stuffed into mini peppers and/or with a few Triscuits. I even got a co-worker hooked on it. So tasty, easy, and protein packed.
Do you think you could sub canned chicken breast for regular shredded? This looks so good!
Yes, would definitely work! I would just make sure to use enough ๐
