Ingredients You’ll Need

- Cottage cheese: The base for these bowls is cottage cheese. You can blend it first, but if you’re not blending it, be sure to buy small curd cottage cheese. I don’t recommend using fat-free cottage cheese for this one.
- Parmesan cheese: Grated parmesan cheese works perfectly in this recipe to up the pizza flavor.
- Mozzarella cheese: For that classic melty pizza cheese. You can use sharp cheddar cheese, pepper jack, or provolone cheese if you want to switch up the flavor.
- Marinara sauce: You can use pizza sauce or regular marinara sauce.
- Pepperoni: I like using turkey pepperoni. You can use regular pepperoni if you prefer it. You could also use cooked Italian sausage.
- Seasonings: For this tasty pizza bowl recipe the seasonings are simple- you’ll need Italian seasoning and garlic powder.
- Dippers: I love serving this dip with mini bell peppers and crostini or pita chips.
Variations
- Cottage cheese chicken pizza bowl: Add shredded chicken!
- Buffalo chicken cottage cheese pizza bowl: Add shredded chicken and swap the tomato sauce for buffalo sauce (adjust based on how spicy you like it).
- Greek-style cottage cheese pizza bowl: Add feta cheese, fresh tomatoes, and kalamata olives.
- Cheeseburger pizza bowl: Add ground beef and swap mozzarella for sharp cheddar.
- Change up the dippers: Use your favorite whole grain crackers or tortilla chips instead of pita chips.
- Add fresh herbs like fresh basil or fresh oregano.
How to Make Cottage Cheese Pizza Bowls
This dip recipe makes 4 servings, but you can bake it in individual servings or bake it in a larger dish for family-style.

- Preheat oven to 350°F. In a medium bowl, combine the cottage cheese, Parmesan cheese, garlic powder, and Italian seasoning. Mix well.

- Cover the bottom of an oven safe skillet or small casserole dish with the cottage cheese mixture. For single servings, split the cottage cheese evenly into 4 baking dishes.

- Next layer the pizza sauce, spreading it evenly.

- Sprinkle the top of the sauce with mozzarella cheese and top with the pepperoni. Bake for 12 to 14 minutes, until the cheese is melted.

Jamie’s Tips
Expert Recipe Tips
- Drain excess liquid if needed. If your cottage cheese seems very watery, you can strain it briefly before using to create a thicker, creamier base.
- Don’t overload with watery toppings. Vegetables like mushrooms, tomatoes, or zucchini can release moisture as they cook. If using them, saute first or pat dry to prevent excess liquid.
- Use just enough sauce. A little marinara goes a long way. Too much can make the bowl soupy instead of thick and scoopable.
- Bake until just heated and melted. Overbaking can cause the mixture to separate or become watery. You want everything warmed through with melted cheese, not fully dried out.
- Let it rest briefly before eating. Allowing the bowl to sit for a few minutes after baking helps it thicken slightly and improves the overall texture.
FAQs
Definitely! Add absolutely anything that you would like on top of a traditional pizza You can add them at the end so that they’re cold or heat them with the bowl. Classic choices like pepperoni, sausage, and veggies work great.
Because this crustless pizza bowl has so much flavor added, you might still enjoy it even if you’re not a huge cottage cheese fan. If you’re not sure, start with 1/2 the amount of cottage cheese and replace the other half with cream cheese instead.
You can definitely blend the cottage cheese before adding the other ingredients if you prefer a smoother, creamier texture. Unblended works just fine too.
It has all of the classic pizza flavors like cheese, marinara and toppings, but the texture is different. It’s more like a warm cheesy dip or crustless pizza than a traditional slice.
Personally as a Registered Dietitian I’m a big fan of eating the “real thing” when you’re truly in the mood for it. With that said, if you love pizza-flavored stuff, this is a yummy idea to put into your normal rotation that’s so much fun!
Yes, you can prep the ingredients ahead of time and assemble when ready to bake. You can also store leftovers in the fridge for a few days and reheat as needed, though it’s best fresh.

Wow! This is delicious and so quick and easy! Love this for lunch!
Yay, so glad you loved it! 🙂
This dip is very delicious! However, mine turns out really watery. Do you have any suggestions or solutions for this? We drained the cottage cheese and mashed it but still pretty soupy.
It may have been the brand of cottage cheese you used- some of them are definitely more “watery” than others.
Omg making this today bc i have all ingredients so making on this blizzardy day when i want comfort food
This recipe was delicious! Mine was very watery when I first took it out of
The oven, but it thickens as you let it sit!
Glad you enjoyed it!!
The flavor was amazing! I did not blend. Reminded me of lasagna! It was watery…not sure WHY I used high quality cottage cheese 4% fat. When I took out of oven, I let it set up for 10 minutes… then just drained the water off. Any suggestions would be appreciated.
Hmm! I haven’t made it without blending the cottage cheese first so that may have made a difference! You could also try baking it for a shorter amount of time- cottage cheese does tend to separate a bit when heated. Glad you still enjoyed it! 🙂
