This spicy chicken noodle soup is one of my favorite chicken noodle soup recipes ever. It’s the number one request from family members when they’re under the weather and only takes a few minutes to make. Plus, you can easily adjust the sriracha sauce to your preferred spice level or even omit it entirely.

The next time you need a warm and comforting soup with a little spice, you have to make this perfectly cozy and spicy soup.
Let’s get into what you need to make it this spicy chicken soup.
Ingredients
- Chicken breast: You can use boneless skinless chicken breast or boneless skinless chicken thighs for this soup, whichever you prefer. I tend to use chicken breast because I don’t always love the texture of the extra chicken fat, but it’s totally up to you. You can also use bone in chicken or even a whole chicken, just be sure to de-bone and discard skin before putting back in the soup.
- Chicken broth: I typically use low sodium chicken broth, but you can also use chicken stock, vegetable broth or vegetable stock.
- Egg noodles: Wide or extra wide egg noodles are great in this soup, but you can also use whatever pasta you typically like for soup, like macaroni noodles. You can even use rice instead!
- Carrots, celery and onion: You’ll need the classic veggies- carrots, celery and onion. You can also add other veggies like cauliflower and broccoli if you want to!
- Garlic cloves and ginger: Fresh garlic and ginger add so much flavor to this soup, it’s one of my favorite chicken soup additions.
- Olive oil: You’ll need olive oil or avocado oil to sauté your veggies.
- Lemon juice: Lemon juice adds the perfect amount of bright citrus flavor to this soup. You’ll add it right at the end!
- Sriracha hot sauce: Sriracha goes perfectly with the other flavors of this soup, like garlic and ginger. You can also use regular hot sauce, cayenne pepper or crushed red pepper flakes for heat.
- Bay leaves
- Salt + pepper

- Remove the pot from the heat, stir in lemon juice and hot sauce.
- Add additional lemon juice, hot sauce, and salt and pepper to taste.
- Serve with your favorite crusty bread and top soup with green onions, finely chopped herbs, or more sriracha if you’re a big lover of spicy foods.
Storage information
Store leftover chicken soup in an airtight container in the fridge for up to 4 days. This soup is so flavorful and even better the next day.
Variations
- Instead of sriracha, use your favorite hot sauce. You can also use cayenne pepper or red pepper flakes instead.
- Use whole wheat elbows, chickpea noodles or protein noodles instead of egg noodles.
- Add different veggies like chopped cauliflower, broccoli or spinach.
