Add brown sugar, water, and vanilla extract to a small saucepan and combine well using a wooden or silicone spoon.
Bring ingredients to a boil and then immediately lower to simmer.
Simmer for 10-12 minutes, stirring occasionally. Note: If you're low on time, simmer for just 5 minutes, but the flavor will be deeper with a longer simmer time.
Remove the pan from the heat and allow to cool before pouring into a mason jar or airtight container for storage. Note: Syrup will thicken as it cools and will be thicker once refrigerated. Don't be alarmed if it appears "watery" right after it's finished, that's normal!
Add this simple syrup to your favorite coffee, tea, hot chocolate or any hot or cold beverages that you'd typically sweeten with sugar.

Nutrition facts are based on ~1 tbsp of syrup.If you want to make more or less, just use equal parts water and sugar.
